Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the Zuni Puebla in New Mexico. I am mostly self taught, and landscape was a new field for me when I took this one.

Time

It was about ten in the morning, eleven at the latest. I woke up about 7, ate breakfast and went with my dad driving around the reservation to practice my landscape photography and managed to get this shot.

Lighting

The lighting was a little tricky because I'm working only with the natural sunlight and had to figure out how to angle the shot to get it exactly right without losing half the details in the shadows.

Equipment

I used a canon T5i with a standard 35 lens or something like that I don't remember offhand.

Inspiration

I was driving with my dad, he showed me the mountain and I thought it looked like a nice shot.

Editing

I create a mask layer in photo shop, boost vibrance a little and adjust the contrast. Not much editing done.

In my camera bag

My camera, an extra batter, extra lenses, some UV filters, a flash just in case, a mic just in case, a macro lens. Cleaning cloths.

Feedback

Go with your gut. You'll either get a really great shot, or you'll learn what not to do for next shot. Honestly, I get shots like this because I walk around my house and my apartment at various times of day and take random shots. It's become second nature at this point to be able to look at what I want, quick set my camera and then any minor adjustments don't take long to make. But I already know what settings to start at for various situations, and can adjust as needed.
