Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this photo on my first whale tour a few miles off of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The seven whale pod had just finished feeding on a Harbor Seal.

Time

This is absolutely one of my favorite and luckiest photos I have taken. It was right around 4pm when we arrived to where the whales were feeding.

Lighting

I did not have time to think about lighting as this happened as soon as the boat stopped moving, so it is all natural lighting.

Equipment

This photo was actually taken before I bought the camera I have now. I captured this with a Samsung Smartphone

Inspiration

I really wanted to photograph the whales feeding but that occurred under the water. So I waited for them to finish and this is what I captured.

Editing

I have not done any post processing on this photograph.

In my camera bag

Canon T7I camera, Canon 18-55mm lens, Canon 50mm lens, Canon 24mm lens, Canon 55-250mm lens, Canon 480 Speedlight.

Feedback

This photo was totally unexpected. My advice is, Always be prepared for your next great shot. It may not appear to look good as your taking the photo but expect to be surprised later. Some of my best photos were not realizied until I took them off my camera.
