Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on an abandoned railroad bridge near my home in Allentown. I am a self-taught photographer who relies on learning through practice and critique from photography friends.

Time

An adventure in the afternoon can often make for great images, especially when it is stormy out and you can get some slightly darker vibes from the images.

Lighting

All natural. No extraneous lights needed when nature provides you with the perfect setting.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D5300 with a 18-55mm lens, f/3.5-5.6. Settings: ISO 400; 18 mm; f/3.5; 1/250.

Inspiration

I thoroughly enjoy railroads, bridges, and straight lines. Combine that with an edgy or dramatic feel and you've created a recipe for a photo that I am going to love. I often see railroads photographed from standing height and I wanted a slightly different persepctive.

Editing

I touched it up a very small bit in Lightroom bringing out the colors. I often focus on minimalism in my edits.

In my camera bag

Although much of it does not get uploaded to Viewbug I use lots of flashlights in my photography at night. I normally have several flashlights, a Nikon D5300 with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and a manual focus Sigma for fun. I also typically have extra batteries and a small tripod for my camera. My bag is small and lightweight because I often do lots of climbing or activities that require nimble movement.

Feedback

Railroads and bridges are easy things to get creative with. Go to any local railroad or bridge and play around with different perspectives that feel right to you.
