The Obersee in Berchtesgaden in Bavaria in Germany lies south of the Königsee. A moraine wall about 1 km wide separates the two lakes that were originally connected. A flat hiking trail leads from the Saletalm on the south bank of the Königsee to the Obersee. On the western shore of the Obersee, a mostly flat, but sometimes narrow and exposed path leads to the Fischunkelalm at the rear end of the Obersee. In contrast to the big brother Königssee, the Obersee has not been fished since the Berchtesgaden National Park was founded in 1978. In addition to its wildly romantic location between the steeply rising rock walls, the Obersee is primarily known for its reflection on the water surface. Due to its protected location and since there are no boats on the lake, the water surface is usually completely calm and the reflections in the Obersee are extremely clear.
