Behind The Lens

Location

I am a self-taught photographer from Northamptonshire. I took this photo while I was on holiday in Cornwall. The model in this photo is my cousin. We both discussed the idea of this photoshoot before we went on holiday. We visited this lovely beach in Cornwall called Bedruthan Steps.

Time

Both my family and I set out for the day around 10 am and as this place was packed with tourists, it was hard at first to find a good place to set up. But eventually, we found this lovely location at around 12 midday.

Lighting

That day the light was quite harsh, meaning the sun was at its highest but luckily the light in the shade was just right.

Equipment

Nikon D750, Nikon 20mm F1.8. At first, I was trying to use my 50mm F1.8 but the shots weren't coming out how I wanted them. So I switched to my 20mm F1.8, which I just recently purchased before this holiday. The shots I captured that day came out better than I had even hoped for.

Inspiration

My cousin and I always wanted to do a photoshoot like this but could never find the right location and time to do it. So when my family put together this holiday we thought we could find a very nice beach location for the shoot. My cousin and I got to work on finding a beach to visit and this lovely beach was recommended, so we thought let's do it.

Editing

I didn't have to do too much to it actually. I brightened it up just a touch and I stuck on one of my presets I had used previously.

In my camera bag

At the time I usually packed most if not all my kit into my bag. But this time around I knew I was either taking landscapes or portraits, so I only packed my Nikon 20mm F1.8 and Nikon 50mm F1.8. But my 50mm was playing ball when we got there so my 20mm was stuck on my camera for the entire day, which gave me another way of looking and taking portraits.

Feedback

If you are looking to do any type of portrait shoot and not very confident like I was, ask a family member because sometimes they might just surprise you once they get into character.
