This fox had been sleeping on the deep snow in Yellowstone National Park for several hours before I arrived nearby to photograph it. Over the course of about 20 minutes I took a series of photographs of the fox, thinking that it was still soundly sleeping. It wasn't until I reviewed the images later that I realized that it had briefly opened one eye to look at me as I was photographing it.
