I took this photo at a concert of a Spanish band 'Itaca' at a college NIT Surathkal in India.Time
As most concerts, it was taken at night. Itaca was the second band to perform that day and their performance started after 1 AM in the night. That did nothing to dampen the spirits of the crowd or the band as they were energetic as seen in the picture.Lighting
I love the light in this picture. The backside of the lead singer is illuminated by a light from the back of the stage and all the lights in the front were off creating amazing contrast. The element of dry ice smoke in the foreground also adds drama to the image.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5300 with a 28mm F/1.8 lens.Inspiration
I love shooting concerts. I had actually gone to shoot the band that was performing before this one. As I was done with the same, they came and started performing. I was really drawn to their energy and was lucky enough to shoot them.Editing
Yes, as you can see it is a black and white image. I chose this because of the drama that black and white images are able to convey in them.In my camera bag
My main shooter is the Nikon D5300 with a 35mm 1.8 lens mounted on it. The other lenses I use are the 18-55 3.5-5.6 which is rarely used in concerts and mostly for landscape photos, and the 70-300 4.5-5.6 which is an amazing lens to get very close pictures of artists on stage. For this concert I also had a 28mm 1.8 lens that I had borrowed from a friend. I also usually carry a GoPro Hero 6 Black in my bag along with all the other equipment to shoot the occasional ultra-wide shot.Feedback
Concerts are full of moments like these. You always have to be on your toes and be ready for anything that can happen. They are unpredictable and completely raw, with very little involvement of the photographer in posing the artists. You get to shoot what's happening in the moment uninterrupted and that is what I love about this genre of photography.
