Location
I took the photo in "Illas Cíes", some islands located in Galicia, northwest Spain. They are in the Atlantic Ocean, relatively close to the coast. An authentic paradiseTime
For this session I had to travel to Baiona (Galicia), 160 km from my studio, so I got up at 5 in the morning to catch the ferry at 9. The couple was already waiting for me on the islands because they took advantage to spend there a few days of vacation. We started the session at about 11 in the morning, they are not the best hours to take photos outdoors, but there was another remedy, and it was difficult to fight with such a hard light throughout the morning. This specific photo was made on 09/15/2019 at 12:38 p.m.Lighting
The midday light was very hard and strong this day, but that place was very special for the couple. I just had to adapt to the light and the moment.Equipment
The photo was made with a NIKON D4, with a Nikkor 14-24, 2.8 lens.Inspiration
As I already mentioned, the place was very special for this couple. Depending on the situation of the sun, it was ideal to take this view, with the Rhodes Beach (one of the most beautiful in the world according to National Geographic) on the bottom-right, and the loingitudinal view of the island, with the "Cabo Home " background. I simply positioned the couple according to the light, and waited for the magic to arise between them.Editing
Basic settings in Lightroom for lights, shadows and color. In my camera bag
Depending on the work I'm going to do, at least one of my 3 NIKON D4, D800 and D750 cameras is always in my backpack. For social reporting (weddings) I use D4 + D750, for landscape and product the D800. My favorite social lenses are AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f / 1.8G and Sigma 50mm DG HSM - 50mm, f / 1.4. I also use very regularly: AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f / 2.8G ED AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f / 2.8E ED VR AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f / 2.8G ED VR II AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f / 2.8G ED VR II Profoto A1, B2 and B1x flashesFeedback
For me the fundamental thing, and in this order, is the light, the feeling and finally the composition. It is of little use to take the most spectacular photo in the world of lights, flashes and idyllic places, if then the couple transmits absolutely nothing. The first thing I want is for my clients to be transported to that same place and at the same moment, and feel what they felt when they were there.
