This photo was taken in a park near my home. It was the middle of summer in Texas, but this little guy let me put him in a sweater. The clock used in his eyes is my mantle clock at home.Time
I had to work with his schedule and took the photo in the late afternoon.Lighting
There was harsh summer light and strong shadows. I chose to have the shadow stay on his face rather than facing him towards the light. I felt it would make the eyes stand out more when the clock's were added.Equipment
I shot this image using my old Canon 80D crop frame with my favorite 70-200 lens.Inspiration
I wanted to take some vintage looking portraits of this sweet little guy. Thinking of vintage and time made me think about the passage of time. The way we perceive the passage of time differes so much depending on our age. Now that I am older, time seems to pass so quickly. Wouldn't it be great to be able to feel the way we did as children?Editing
In post I lightened the shadows just a bit, corrected skin flaws and did a touch of dodge and burn. Then I added the clocks to his eyes. I struggled with how obvious to make them. I wanted the viewer to see the clocks, to think of time without making them blatantly obvious. I love the look on the finished piece but it is subtle difficult to see on a screen version. In my camera bag
I carry my Canon 5D Mark IV but often have my old 80D as backup. I always have my beloved 2.8 70-200, I often keep my 2.8 24-70 for general use and have begun bringing my 100-400 with me since the onset of Covid-19.Feedback
I love to shoot up close with the 2.8! The bokah is wonderful and the detail is great. Adding the eyes is simple to do with photoshop and other eye changes can easily be gotten online.
