Location
This photo was taken at my daughters barn where we keep our horse, Augusta Pines Farm in Spring Texas.Time
Afternoon photoshoot, around 2pm.Lighting
Whenever I am doing a horse portraiture I look for areas of natural light with lots of shade. It can be an entrance to the barn or an outside area, ideally I'm looking for a space where I can bring the horse into as much/or as little natural light as needed.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark IV and a Sigma 85mm/1.4 lensInspiration
We've owned horses for years and whenever I get the chance I love making time to capture a special moment. Lincoln is a 5 year old Dutch Warmblood that is coming along nicely in the land of Hunter,Jumper and Derbies also my daughters best friend. Horses are curious and busy so when planning a photo shoot you just have to just go with it and see what you get!Editing
Yes, lots of post editing. Cleaning up the background by basically removing it. All photo's are done in a shaded background so that helps but there will also be barn stalls or other areas will need to be removed or heavily shaded. In my camera bag
Always carry both my 5D Mark IV cameras, you never know when you will need a backup. As for my lens, I always carry my Canon 35mm, Sigma 85mm and my Canon 70-200mm lens.Feedback
When capturing horse portraits the key is to be patient and relax. I alway have at least 4-5 pose options for a horse, you honestly don't know how engaged or cooperative they will be. You just have to go in and keep positioning them well at the same time trying to keep them entertained.
