Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my country(Singapore). I was learning on bird photography and it was my first experience shooting on a small bird like passerine and common kingfisher.

Time

This is one of hardest to capture and also my favourite photo. I remember going to the eastern part of Singapore nature park with cold windy and chilly morning, thinking it's going to rain. Eventually, the rain doesn't come. I set my shutter speed, aperture and ISO to suit what I want for the end result. I had no tripod, balancing with my arm muscle and it was totally adventuring. The photo was shot on 26 December 2019, Thursday.

Lighting

The lighting comes from a nature resource and I wanted the subject(Common kingfisher) to outstand the entire scene. I set sown the aperture to get a nice depth of field and keeping the tree log makes a perfectly nice for the bird to stand and to show it's leadership.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon EOS RP, Stigma contemporary lens 150-600mm

Inspiration

After seeing local birders posting their amazing bird shots in FB and IG, I was enthusiast to explore and finding more about rare birds coming into my country. There's where I began to adventure on birds photography. It takes several practices and most importantly patience. As an old veteran people said "equip with knowledge and patience, will achieve your goals"

Editing

Before editing, visualise of what we want for the end result. For this case, I used the raw file to edit and enhance it's colour and clarity to look more crispier on the bird where else for the white balance has been set to auto. For the blur background, I used a brush layer mask to highlight the area and tone down a bit of exposure, texture, clarity and sharpness.

In my camera bag

In my bag, normally my Camera EOS RP, my telephoto lens(stigma 150-600mm), standard lens RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, E-mount adaptor, 1.4x Tele Convertor and Tripod.

Feedback

Explore and understand the nature behaviour and keep on practicing with patience.
