This photo was taken at a dance studio. We had just finished a dance portrait session and decided to do a few headshots... I'm so happy we did because this one came out great!Time
This was an indoor photoshoot around 9pm.Lighting
This was a one light set up with the light directly to the side of the model.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D7200, Nikon 35MM f/1.8, one 32x48" Softbox, and a Godox QT400II studio flash. I was originally going to use a Deep Parabolic 48" Softbox but the strobe it was mounted on stopped working just as we were sitting down for this shot... perfect timing of course but I think it came out great.Inspiration
There is something so beautiful about a soft, one light portrait. It has a timeless look that can be beautifully framed and enjoyed by everyone.Editing
In Photoshop I used separation frequency to clean up blemishes and create a softer look to her skin, liquify to correct some distortion from the short focal length, added a slight texture to the background, and highlighted some parts of her face using curves. In my camera bag
In my bag I have a Nikon D7200, Nikon 35mm f/1.8, Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6, and depending on the shoot I sometimes rent the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 or Nikon 70-200 f/2.8.Feedback
With this kind of portrait I usually start with one light and then add a reflector or second light if needed. If using natural light this could be done next to a door or window with the light coming in to the side of the model.
