This was taking on a pier in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, MD and the artwork was part of the Light City Baltimore light displayTime
Obviously, this was taken at night sometime before 11:30 PM when the displays closed for the nightLighting
There was a little bit of a challenge with this shot. Since it was a displayed piece of artwork that was open for folks to walk through, I had to take into consideration the lighting around the pier as it was right next to the USS Constellation that was all lit up. I know I needed a slow shutter speed in order to get the folks walking through to disappear. Took a few tries to get it rightEquipment
This was shot on a Fuji XT-2 with a Roninon 12mm lens and mounted on a tripod for .4 sec at f/2.0 I used a shot timer of 2 seconds so as not to cause any shake when taking the picture.Inspiration
As mentioned this was an artwork that was part of the Light City Baltimore exhibit in the Inner Harbor. I had taken a walk about the harbor looking at all the various displays but found myself drawn back to this particular exhibit. I just liked how it could be aligned with some of the landmarks in the Inner Harbor along with the fact that you could get the great reflection in the man-made pool it was standing in.Editing
This didn't need much editing. I decided to leave the few folks in the image on either side of the artwork as they didn't hinder the image. I darken the blacks a bit to darken the background and brought up the whites to bring out the Egg from the backgroud. In my camera bag
My camera bag has my Fuji XT-2, the 18-55mm lens, and then a Rokinon 12mm 2.0 CS X wide-angle lens. And I always have my tripod with me even in the daytime as you never know when you might need it.Feedback
For this type of photo in a public environment best thing I can say is to be patient. I set up my camera next to this artwork on my tripod, composed the picture I wanted, and then just waited for the right moment when the people were walking through the artwork and not stopping for a long period of time in the middle.
