Large spherical boulders can be found on Koekohe Beach near Moeraki on New Zealand’s Otago coast. I had intended to write a blurb about them to go with the image. Something happened though that was perhaps much more interesting.

I was at Koekohe Beach with my three year old daughter (Freyja) for ice cream and coffee. Someone was looking closely at one of the boulders when Freyja strode confidently up to them and said (with total conviction) "mermaids live in there"! She then went on to inanely babble on about mermaids and the sea.

That made my day and a made a good story but if you want to know more about the Moeraki Boulders, there's lots of info online :)
