Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a peanut field on my grandmothers land!

Time

This was taken around 6 in the afternoon, we were actually running pretty late for this shoot so I was worried about losing the light but it ended up being exactly what I had envisioned.

Lighting

I only shoot in natural light whether it be indoors or outdoors, so we started shooting around sunset. The model, Karsen, was looking into an amazing sunset at the time just as it was getting dark!

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark iii, and a 50 mm lens. The funny thing is my lens was actually broken and I had to focus manually while laying on the ground!

Inspiration

I had been searching for inspiration for this shoot for a while, through other photographers, looking for new unique ways to pose and new angles. This was something entirely new to me and we had to try this pose a few times to get it right.

Editing

I love post processing, with this image I was able to keep it pretty simple because the photo spoke for itself. Everything was hand edited, with some simple dodge and burn, and a sun flare that I created in photoshop.

In my camera bag

When I pack up my camera bag I typically keep every lens I own in it because I like to switch it up a lot. So that means I always have my Canon 5D Mark iii, my 70-200mm lens, 24-70mm, 135mm, and a 50mm! And of course a few SD cards and a spare battery.

Feedback

Look for unique locations! Try to imagine your model in your space when scouting, and see how it will look at different times of day. Try new angles, get low, go high, and don't be afraid to get dirty!
