This photo was taken in my backyard in Alabama after a big rain that caused our pond to flood, it is what I consider the start of my career in photography.Time
I took this photo around 12PM, the worst time of day! But you wouldn't even know it due to the storm, I remember that it was freezing cold as well and I was barefoot standing ankle deep in the water for this shot!Lighting
Considering this was the very beginning of my photography career I did not have much in mind in terms of lighting when taking this shot, I just went for it!Equipment
This was shot with my Samsung Galaxy S cellphone. Unfortunately, I did not know how to work a camera at the time. But I'm still amazed at how it turned out being taken with my cell phone! This photo even had high enough quality to be printed on a canvas and hung in my home.Inspiration
When the rain had a short break my family and I decided to take a look outside at the damage of the backyard flood we so often have, and when I was standing looking at everything I just saw a perfect reflection and decided I needed to try to capture it.Editing
I did minimal post-processing for this image, I wanted it to feel a bit moodier and dramatic so I went with black and white, and gave it some heavy vignette on the edges. In my camera bag
The first thing that I always pack is my Canon 135mm, it is by far my favorite lens! I also favor the Canon 70-200mm zoom lens and 24-70mm for wide angles. As far as cameras go, I always have my Canon 5D Mark iii on hand for any opportunity to take a photo.Feedback
To capture an image like this I would recommend to always look at your surroundings, and then look again. It is easy to miss beautiful photos by just not looking. Most of my family that was around me thought that I was crazy when I was taking the photo because they couldn't see it, also keeping into consideration I was ankle deep in the water! But once they saw the finished product they were amazed.
