2012-06-17 Elbiganalp, Austria : Sacrament procession in Elbigenalp, a little village in Lechtal - Tirol, where traditional faith and cultural heritage are brought together and expressed in yearly public events.
General info: "A sacramental procession in the Roman Catholic Church is a procession in which a consecrated host (the "Holy Sacrament" or "Most Holy") in a monstrance is solemnly carried by a priest through the streets of a town or village. The priest thereby wears a cope and walks under a processional canopy. Many sacramental processions take place on the second Sunday after Pentecost, the official celebration of Sacrament Day (Corpus Christi). In the past it was common for residents to place procession flags along the route. When the pastor with the Holy of Holies came by, people knelt in reverence. Men took their hats off."
