Location
This was shot at the Buffalo Zoo. Our zoo has a nationally respected Gorilla breeding program. This is Koga our silverback male.Time
This was taken late morning. The lighting in this shot makes it one of my favorite zoo pictures.Lighting
The Gorilla exhibit is inside but lit with daylight. The tricky part of this exhibit is shooting through glass.Equipment
This was taken hand held through glass with my Pentax K3 and a fixed focal length 200 mm Pentax lens. One of my favorite lenses.Inspiration
Koga is very photogenic and likes to ham for photographers. He always looks like he is plotting an escape.Editing
Koga was actually laying on his back. I flipped the photo and made it black and white. I use Photoshop for 98% of my post processing. In my camera bag
I have two camera systems. My Pentax K3 and a Sony mirrorless. Both with a variety of lenses. I really prefer fixed focal length lenses. I feel the clarity is much better than a zoom.Feedback
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
