Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Barham Forest near Cape Otway, Australia.

Time

We were driving along the narrow entry road through the Barham Forest National Park and spotted this koala just off the road! Just lucky as we were the only ones on the road at the time. Quickly got out of the car and walked right up to the koala and snapped two or three photos with my iPhone X before the road was like a parking lot and the koala moved high into the eucalyptus tree.

Lighting

The eucalyptus trees provided just the perfect natural lighting so no concern with sun.

Equipment

I was lucky to get the shot with just my iPhone X!!

Inspiration

Couldn’t pass up the opportunity with the koala only 10 feet away!! We were hoping to see koalas as this area of Australia is know for them but more often then not they are high in the trees or off in the distance to far away to get good photos.

Editing

No post processing other then son very slight cropping.

In my camera bag

I often carry a Canon EOS Rebel XSi with a 072 Di II Tamron 18-270mm. However on this trip (3 weeks in Australia) I committed to my iPhone X only as we needed to travel exceptionally light.

Feedback

Sometimes you just get lucky. However being patient and getting away from the crowd has been a good strategy for me with many of my prized photos.
