Behind The Lens

Location

My photo was taken along Hwy 101 in my home town of Lincoln City, Oregon. This is a much photographed site by locals and especially tourist who are passing through town. It's is called Siletz Bay Park and this is looking over the 4 Brothers, which are 4 rock formations with small trees on top.

Time

I am a watercolorist and use my camera for many of my inspirational pictures. Sunset, on the coast, is one of my favorite times. The day's fading gold light is so beautiful, I love the silhouette shapes with soft edges, and the clouds illuminated by the sun are breath taking. It is a very special "few minutes" of beauty captured by my camera, for a life time memory.

Lighting

I often try to not only capture what can easily be seen with our eyes, but, all the subtle second colors and reflections, that my eye can't adjust enough to see, that "second sight" which is such a pleasant surprise when I arrive home and down load my pictures for that larger view.

Equipment

I am in the process of learning to use my first digital camera, a basic EOS Canon Rebel T5 . I've shot 35mm film for years, always with a Canon, and bought this digital as a present to myself to celebrate my retirement! I used the 75-300mm zoom lens, usually on AF or manual setting.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the place and the challenge of taking an evening photo using a tripod.

Editing

I did very little processing as I am still learning the capabilities of my camera.

In my camera bag

I invested in a nice, all weather, camera backpack, with outside pocket for water, 3 zipper pockets inside and divisional areas for camera and several lens. I carry a camera "raincoat", 3 lens, macro lens, macro tubes, camera manual, pencil and pad, lens filters, a cleaning wipe for the lens and my reading glasses.

Feedback

Just go for it, enjoy the process, take many shots of the subject and be prepared to be awed with the journey!
