The photo was taken in my brand new home studio in Melbourne, Australia.Time
Late afternoon on a relaxing weekend.Lighting
It is an one light set up from the left of the subject - A modelling light with a giant 135cm octabox.Equipment
The image was shot on Nikon D800, Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 lens, 1 x Elinchrom BRX 500 modelling light, 1 x Elinchrom 135cm Rotalux Octabox.Inspiration
One afternoon, I was tinkering with my new lighting equipments in the studio when I heard the sound of the cello coming from the family room, it was my son doing his daily cello practice. He has only started learning the instrument a little over a year ago and had madly fell in love, so when I asked him to migrate from the practice location to the front of the camera he happily obliged! the I love everything about this image, the concentration, the engagement, the emotion, the connection between music and one's soul.Editing
I have adjusted the image mainly using curves in Photoshop for contrast, blacks and whites. Also slightly increased the saturation then colourised the image to my taste. In my camera bag
I shoot light! Usually I have my D800 Nikon DSLR along with Nikorr 24-70mm f2.8, and a Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lens in the camera bag.Feedback
Just experiment because the best or favourite shot always happen unexpectedly! I captured this image when I first set up my home studio last year and was learning about different lighting effects. After taking the photo I also added another modelling light to the other side of the subject, and experimented with different angles and position for one / both lights. This image is still the favourite out of the entire collection.
