Location
This photo was taken in a forrest near by Oslo, the capitol of Norway.Time
It was shot in the middle of the day 12:00 p.m january 8th 2020.Lighting
The sun was up, but the light inside the forrest was dark as the owl sat in the shadow.Equipment
I used Canon EOS-1D X Mark II with a Canon EF 500mm F4.0 L IS II USM + Canon Extender EF 1.4X III. Aperture f/5.6,?ISO 2500,?Shutter 1/400,?Focal Length 700/1. I used an Induro carbon tripod with a Wimberley WH-200 gimballInspiration
I love to take pictures of birds and when I got a hint that this owl had been seen in an area near by where I live I had to try to find it. The Great Grey Owl is most often seen in the north of Norway and is seldom seen so far to the south, and at least not so near a large town.Editing
Since I take photos in RAW, I use Lightroom to sharpen and adjust the exposure a bit and also with a small noise adjustment. In my camera bag
My photo equipment is Canon EOS 1DX II, Canon EOS 7D II, Canon EOS 6D II, Canon Canon EF 500mm F4.0 L IS II USM, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM , Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, Canon EF 100mm F2.8 L Macro IS USM, Canon EF 24-105mm F4.0 L IS USM, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM EX, Canon Extender EF 1.4X III, Canon Extender EF 2X III, Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT I also have several filters and so on. Because the total equipment is rather heavy I most often pack my F-stop photobag with the 1DX and 500 mm or 7D with 100-400mm for bird and animal photos. My 6D I mostly use for landscape and macro photo.Feedback
My best tip for bird and animal photography is "be patient".
