This is a long exposure of the Fire Island Lighthouse taken during the blue hour. I love how the clouds are stretched out with the stars showing in between them.

I took this photo while walking the path out to the Fire Island Lighthouse, Fire Island, New YorkTime
I was with a group of fellow photographers on our way over to the bay side of Fire Island hoping to be able to capture a photo of the Milky Way over the Fire Island Lighthouse. We stopped along the way after sunset during blue hour to take a few photos while waiting for it to get dark enough to hopefully see the Milky Way appear.Lighting
There was no special lighting used for this photograph. Since it was during blue hour I had my iso at 100 f/5.6 40 second exposure.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D750. Nikon 24-120 lens and my Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
Seeing the break in clouds showing the stars peaking through and the light from the lighthouse really made me want to capture this scene. Even the boardwalk with the grass leading up to the lighthouse drew me right in.Editing
The majority of my post processing is done in Lightroom. I usually enable lens profile correction, change my profile to adobe landscape and then make adjustments in highlights, shadows, white and black. If necessary I will use noise reduction but in this case that wasn't needed. I will also sharpen in Lightroom. If there are spots or other objects that need to be removed I will then move over to Photoshop for those edits. Once done there it goes back to Lighroom and is exported from there. In my camera bag
I am now using my Nikon Z7 most often with my Nikon 16-35 as well as my Tamron 70-200 f2.8. I have a Vanguard tripod as well as my trusty PlatyPod to help me get different perspectives when I am out shooting. I also carry my Cokin Nuances 10 stop filter as well. I try to go as light as possible when I can.Feedback
For me I always find photographing after sunset during the blue hour to be my favorite time. I love the longer exposures without the use of any filters and being able to capture a moment in time drawn out over 30 seconds or longer. Of course you will need some nice clouds as well.
