Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken outside Battambam, Cambodia while on assignment with Holt International Children's Services.

Time

This was a morning capture. It was overcast and a little bit of rain was falling.

Lighting

The over cast skies evened out the lighting quite a bit. Cambodia can have very harsh lighting if not early in the morning or at the latter times of golden hour. We were delayed getting to the assigned shoot. As we got and set up with the family or herders, a morning drizzle of rain rolled in.

Equipment

This was shot handheld using a 24-105 f4 Sony a7III We were busy moving around with the goats and kids that a more stable set up wasn't going to be an option. I use a Peak Design Clutch for easy of carry-to-shoot positioning and security

Inspiration

This was an assigned capture requirement of farm animals and children needed for a "Gifts of Hope" gift catalog for Holt International. A similar image from this shoot was selected as the cover of this catalog.

Editing

This is "As shot"

In my camera bag

As a photojournalist styled photographer, I travel very light in the field. On this trip, I carried just one camera body, the Sony a7IIIs, a single lens, the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 G OSS with a Hoya HD UV filter.

Feedback

My advice for capturing any photography of children is to get down to their eye level. It may be a bit of my personal style, but i tend to move A LOT during a shoot and I rarely capture my subjects while standing upright at this range.
