Behind The Lens

Location

In a rock garden between the patio and pool on a rural property near Walloon, in s.e. Queensland, Australia. I had been waiting for the plant to bloom and after a long drought and some rain it did, in all it's tiny, but amazing glory. It enhanced it's surroundings and brought much joy to those who got to share in it's beauty.

Time

I had finished up doing the morning chores with the horses. I came back through the back yard contemplating a swim in the pool to cool off as the temps were already over 30'C. The sunlight was perfect and cameoed the blooms on the Crown of Thorns plant in fine detail. I immediately went and got my camera and this was the result.

Lighting

With the natural sunlight directly overhead, it captured all the fine detail of these small blooms and this is what I wanted to capture.. the intricate detail and delicacy of flowers on a very hardy plant. Something that is not often noticed or seen with just a glance or in passing by.

Equipment

My Canon SX710HS 30X zoom, small digital that is easy for my to carry around when I am out walking the bush, or wandering the property. It ever serves me well. Most of my photos are handheld, but I do use a portable tripod when specifically out to take photos.

Inspiration

The color and detail of the flowers, after 2 years of dry dusty drought it was a gift from the natural world that I wanted to preserve.

Editing

just some cropping to bring all the attention to the flowers.

In my camera bag

My camera,a portable tripod, fully charged spare battery, usb connecting cables and the battery charger that I can use if needed and if possible.

Feedback

Just be aware of where you are in the moment. The play of light and shadows that enhance the incredible visuals that are constantly around us, be it 'au naturel', or metropoleis. Ofttimes you can be blessed through using all your visual attributes and other senses to be aware of what might be right beside or in front of you. And never discount what some may consider the 'mundane'.
