Behind The Lens

Location

This is photoshop manipulated work. The photo of a lovely girl has been taken by some other photographer (licensed for personal and commercial use). Running water on stones I captured in Iceland. In background 4 photos layered for full composition. I am taking photos but most of my published images are photo manipulations as this is my main hobby.

Time

Each photoshop piece of art can take long hours. As I am an owl, working in the late evening hours, it took a few days to finish the composition.

Lighting

I tried to make the image to express sadness, loneliness and little dreamy

Equipment

For capturing water I used Olympus mirrorless camera and polarizing filter

Inspiration

My works are an expression of my vision of how I see and feel the world. Sometimes it depends on my mood. When I was creating this work it was not the easiest time in my life. Some sad thoughts came into my mind and this is the way how they were transferred into this piece of art.

Editing

Photoshop manipulated works are pretty complex. I was using a lot of layers, brushes, lighting techniques, adjustments (curves, color lookups, etc), Camera Raw. Special attention was used to the extraction of the girl from original photo.

In my camera bag

As I am not a professional photographer my camera is not very sophisticated and not so new: Olympus OM-D E-M5. When I am going out for photoshoots I always have few lenses like Zuiko 14-42 mm, 12-100 mm, 25 mm, 45 mm (depending on location and object), and some filters. For some occasions, I am taking with me a tripod.

Feedback

Speaking about this particular image I can advise others that it is in a way mystic - you start with a blank layer and step by step "build" your emotions on screen, the result might be absolutely different as you pictured it in the beginning. It sometimes takes hours to get started, a lot of versions until you are happy. It is hard to explain. For me, this is like meditation.
