Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in central Michigan.

Time

In the morning just after the ice started to cake up on stuff. The freezing rain turned to more of a straight ice situation which upped the eventual ice totals.

Lighting

The image has depth and draws the viewer inwards. Not too much or too little lighting. Too much lighting would take away focus from seeing the ice covered berries stand out and too little light and some look of depth could be lost. Has to be just the right amount of light to account for fixing the atmosphere that is taken away or dumbed down by a camera or just not represented well in a photo.

Equipment

All of my photos are taken using many different models of smart phones. This photo was specifically taken with a Samsung Galaxy a6 2018 model phone.

Inspiration

I have always had a talent for finding the right photo when a feeling that one exists somewhere pop up in my head so this was no different. The berries and nice branches covered in ice shows a plant just trying to survive through a year of ice and freezing rain. Its unique not cookie cutter and represents a good look into at least one great lakes region weather event.

Editing

I use Inshot app and snapseed app to edit to make small changes to enhance the beauty of a photo, add affects, and watermark with my logo.

In my camera bag

My instincts, my creativity, smart phone and the world where ever that may be as my canvas. A smartphone tripod on rare occasion.

Feedback

Be inspired not by what photos are mainly popular not by what might be pushed as one of the ways to do something, but by what makes you shine. Bring attentiin to the details of life in a creative way that expresses your most inner love for the most enjoyable things. Never try to souly copy someone else. Be unique and be genuine cause that will show and your photo will speak loudly. I can't tell you exactly how to copy my photo style, but if you look closely at yourself and think seperate from everything you can find your own style that best fits you and just works. Do not over think and do not over process a photo. You can always add some small enhancnent to the atmosphere the photo was taken in, but if you try to take atmosphere away and even if you don't notice, your photo will have 'holes' and will suffer greatly. Always always know the weather conditions, like uv and humidity to start, know how different atmospheric conditions csn drive different styles of photography with many different meanings. Find what general range of atmospheric cinditions you feel you need for the photography you do and work on only those days. Yes it means then that you have only a few days a year to get a great photo worthy of being shown, but those photos you do get will surly be worth the wait. It is importaint to know that being genuine, being the character that is uniqly you from with in and finding a style of photography that feels like its cloest to your heart and is number one priority before ever completly finishing, showing off, or doing a bunch of anything.
