Behind The Lens
Location
This is the world famous Multnomah Falls, located near the Columbia River about 30 miles east of Portland, Oregon.Time
This was taken late morning on a typically cloudy Pacific Northwest winter day.Lighting
The light was soft due to the clouds but the sky was bright due to time of day.Equipment
I used a Canon 5d mk4 on a tripod with a 6 stop ND filter from Breakthrough Photography. The lens was a Tamron 24-70 f2.8.Inspiration
I had never been to this iconic landmark and as we were vacationing in Portland, I insisted that we make a day trip to visit the falls. My wife was on board! We hiked above the falls that day as well. It was a lovely time in nature.Editing
I always post process my images, mainly in Lightroom. I also cropped the top of the image to remove some of the bright sky. I don’t remember specifics of the processing but I always use a little of the dehaze slider in Lightroom and often apply the graduated filter to selectively adjust certain areas of the image. I use this mostly on landscape images. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon and at least my 70-200 f2.8 and my Tamron 24-70 f2.8. I often carry a Fuji X100t for a different perspective and also for street photography. For landscape I bring my tripod and ND filters. For portraits, depending on the subject, I’ll use my 135 f2 which is a fantastic lens. Sometimes I’ll go out for a walk with just the 135 to take advantage of it’s perspective and the lovely bokeh.Feedback
