This photo Penny is named incorrectly. This is Jay who was playing with Penny at the time this photo was taken. I couldn’t resist Jays’ expression after Penny jumped at full speed, off the stairs clearly flying over him. The sun coming through the window brought out every color and character of his coat. So he and Penny became my candid subjects.Time
This was about 9:30 or 10 am just before the house wakes for the day.Lighting
The day was overcast with a misty morning rain. This was natural light only just as a lucky break in the clouds occurred.Equipment
Hand held stabilized on a chair back. I never shoot with flash if avoidable. IPhone XR ISO 400. Aperture f/1.8 Focal length 4.25/1 Exposure 1/30Inspiration
I took this photo to capture the way the sun brought out the textures and beautiful colors of Jays’ beautiful fur.Editing
For post production I used iPhoto retouch to blur the background to isolate and convey the quality that drew me to shoot my dogs in play.In my camera bag
My gear carried is a Canon 7d, Canon digital rebel, Canon PowerShot SX520 HS, my iPhone XR and as many extra batteries as my pockets will hold.Feedback
Keep a camera with you always. Shoot freely with out trying to set the scene. A natural capture often renders a more emotional embrace of the subjects. If you want to capture the catalyst that moved you to look at your subjects and want to shoot it, spontaneity and raw, natural light will do the best job telling your story.
