Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a friend's small vegetable garden which was almost abandoned

Time

I was house sitting from the previous night and early one morning in mid summer I went out with my camera and macro lens to shoot the rambling plants

Lighting

Early morning light in summer is one of my favourite times of day, even at 6 a.m with soft diffused morning light

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 7D and a Canon 100 mm macro lens. I prefer to use a tripod for macro, where a steady base is important, especially when there is no rush

Inspiration

The evening when I arrived to house sit, I spotted the semi-abandoned vegetable patch and knew there would be a few excellent opportnities in the early morning light.

Editing

Feedback

Macro photography in nature can be a big challenge, especially as movement caused by wind is your enemy. So I always use a ring flash to ensure I can freeze motion with the help of extra light, which would be impossible without
