Location
I took this photo in my dark photography room. It was the perfect place to capture the intricate details of the mask and make it pop without any distractions in the background. I was taking a photography course because I wanted to improve my skills and knowledge, this was one of the first intricate photos that I took and edited.Time
This is one of the best photos I have ever taken and edited. I remember sitting in my photo class and looking at photos of masks around the world and thought to myself that masks allow people to be someone else. They also give people the chance to express themselves in a way they have never done before. It was a brisk spring day when I picked up my camera and the masks, the sun was shining so I decided to wait until mid-afternoon when the sun was setting and it was complete darkness.Lighting
I wanted this lighting to focus on the mask and her eyes. The mask has so many details in it that I wanted everyone to be able to see them. The lighting also is focused on the right side of the mask and gets darker on the left side because I wanted there to be some mystery to the photo, what is behind her, what is behind the mask.Equipment
This was taken on a Canon EOS Rebel T3, Aperture f/4.5 ISO 1250 Shutter 1/50 Focal Length 37/1.Inspiration
I took this photo as part of my AP Photo presentation and portfolio. I liked the masks and how they all differed from each other. This photo came to me after I was struggling with who I was. The masks allowed me to be whoever I wanted to be and be a different person each day.Editing
I used photoshop to crop the photo, select the mask and the intricate details of the mask and the eyes and inversed it to make it black and white. I then used the eraser tool to erase any small mistakes and small selections and added color back into the photo. In my camera bag
I usually have my camera that includes the zoom lens and short lens. I have my tripod as well.Feedback
I would say take any and all photos that you can. Don't worry what other people are saying or looking at or how difficult it may be. This photo took me weeks to edit and perfect and it was worth it!
