I took this photo right in my backyard! My Dad has always loved gardening and I love to take photos of flowers, so it's the perfect pair! This photo was part of a larger collection, all taken in my backyard which is filled with all different flowers, trees and plants.Time
This photo was taken during a time when normally, flowers and plants would not exist and thrive during the season. I remember it was a brisk day in October and I wanted to show my Dad how much his hard work is appreciated in taking care of our yard. It makes my whole family so happy seeing the bright colors outside, it was around 3 p.m. I had just come home from school and was feeling inspired. I grabbed my camera and before I knew it I had been taking photos for an hour and a half, it was nearly 4:30! I couldn't wait to upload and edit these photos to show my whole family.Lighting
I didn't want the viewer to see anything but the flower, to see all of its detail and its progression from the inside to the outside. The lighting concentrates on the middle of the flower that is still not in full bloom but also highlights the full bloom of the flower with the color. It tells the full story of the flower without being distracted by anything else.Equipment

I had just left school after my photography class and was inspired to show the world my talents. I knew that flowers are beautiful and people love to have bright colors in their life because they signify happiness so I used the skills I learned along with my natural talent and captured this photo. I love flowers and having them right in my backyard, so big and beautiful it was a no brainer to me that I had to capture them.Editing
I used Photoshop for post-processing, I had to change the photo into black and white but kept the natural color of the flower to be able to color pick it and put it back on the outskirts. I also sharpened and cropped the photo to focus on the single flower.In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon D3100, with both my lenses for close and far objects. I always carry an extra memory card with me in case the one I am using runs out of storage. I also bring my iPhone with me, in case I need extra lighting or my camera isn't capturing the photograph the way I want it to.Feedback
Don't wait to take the photograph, if you are feeling inspired and have a vision go for it at any time of the day. You never know what life might throw at you or what might change just by the wind blowing, you might not think it's the perfect photograph but it can turn out to be exactly that. Take as many photos as you want, don't let anyone rush you or make you feel like you're not doing it properly, you continue on until you are happy.
