Location
I took the photo in the park at Winnipeg Manitoba CanadaTime
The photo was taken at 12.00 noon, most think you can't take a good photo in the bright hard light at this time. This photo just show that you can.Lighting
Well, the hard light at noon can be overcome by trying to get in close to the subject and controlling the shadows.Equipment
The camera is a Nikon D50 with the 18-55 mm lens I was lying on the ground so the camera was handheld.Inspiration
I was walking in the park and saw the pocket gophers playing and wanted to get a photo. The lens I had being the 18-55mm I knew I had to get up close to them. As I got close they of course ran for the homes so I laid down in the middle of four holes and waited. After about 15 minutes this one poked his head up and I tried to get the shot my camera makes a little chirp when it focuses. He seems to have been interested in the chirp of the camera and keeped getting closer to me. The camera would chirp and then so would he, it was like he was talking to my camera. When he got close I started to take some photos and this one turned out the best.Editing
Yes I used 20% sharpening, 20% dehaze, 20% clarity, 20% color saturation, 20% vibrance, 20% contrast, and -0.32 exposure compensation. In my camera bag
At the time my sister gave me her old camera just to get me back into taking photos as it was about 30+,years since I had used one. So I only had the 18-55mm lens at the time. I now carry the 18-55, 55-200 and the 70-300.Feedback
Yes, be patient move slowly try not to make any noise and take photos as you move closer, they maybe the only ones you will get. However, you may get luck and get in very close as the animals in a park are used to seeing people. Above all just have fun and don't over think the shot.
