Death in the long grass
Hungry wild dog pups devour the remains of a young kudu.
Having located this pack of 24 dogs (8 adults, 16 pups) in the late morning not too far from camp we left them to sleep through the heat of the day. Returning to the same spot in the evening to find that they had moved slightly into the shade of the trees of a nearby island. There was a quick meet and great before the dogs headed out to a water hole for a drink and then the hunt was on.
We did our best to follow as the dogs flushed wildlife out of the woodland and forced them through the camp. We raced across the front of the restaurant, past our tent and found the dogs already eating their dinner at the end of the camp complex in a patch of dried elephant grass. Â
This shot was taken 8 minutes after they had left the water hole, there really was not much left of this antelope other than skin and bones.
