Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in downtown Manhattan. We were visiting the National September 11 Memorial and the Oculus, and I noticed some artists putting finishing touches to a large colorful structure next to it as we were leaving.

Time

It was early afternoon on a cloudy day with perfect lighting.

Lighting

It was early afternoon but cloudy so the sun was not reflecting directly on the structure, making the lighting perfect to bring out the bright colors.

Equipment

Nikon D610 camera that I held in my hand. I took a couple of pictures and I liked this the best as the artists were facing the structure, providing a scale to it.

Inspiration

The bright colors contrasted with the somber memorial as well as the stark white Oculus next to it.

Editing

I made minor adjustments in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

My camera with extra batteries and memory cards. On that day, I also had my tripod as I planned to take pictures inside the Oculus. For this picture though, I held the camera in my hand as I noticed the colors and the artists painting it when we were leaving.

Feedback

This was likely a temporary setup but the downtown area in and around the Oculus is a dream sight for photographers to visit.
