This photo was taken at the Cork Opera House. I have very many areas of interest in photography but band photography is something I very much enjoyTime
It was an evening performance from about 8 - 10.30. I don't use flash in these settings. Flash is very unnatural and off putting for these shots. I love the atmosphere of just using the lights on the stage.Lighting
As I was saying, I just use the lighting that the band use. I time my shots to when the stage lights are over the person/persons. I love the atmosphere it gives. I used f/3.2 aperture and ISO 4000Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 and 70-200 Nikon lens no flash and no tripodInspiration
A friend of mine produced a Bon Jovi tribute show called the Bon Jovi Story. He is a massive Bon Jovi fan and as he knew I loved band photography asked me to take photos. It was great fun to photograph the showEditing
I edited in lightroom. I just reduced noise slightly, adjusted highlights, contrast, dehaze. In my camera bag
I normally have my Nikon D750, Nikon D700. Tameron 24-70 f/2.8 and Nikon Macro 105mm f/2.8. I have 2 flash guns - nikon sb800 and hahnel modus 600Feedback
Don't use flash. Use camera with good ISO capability. I normally use aperture between f/3.2 - f/5.6 and shutter speed with minimum 1/100-1/125 . This particular shot was f/3.2 with a shutter speed 1/160 and ISO 4000. I've gotten used to the lights that bands use and I take the shots when the lights land over the subject I want to photograph. Some lights are better than others. Some red lights and some blue lights can be tricky. If the band uses smoke machine this can give great atmosphere.
