Behind The Lens

Location

We were on vacation on the East Coast of Florida and had a nice little room, right on Cocoa Beach. I had been up well before sunrise, practicing my night photography shooting and stayed up for this beautiful sunrise.

Time

The hotel rooms are air-conditioned, even overnight. I think it's to battle the humidity, mostly. Anyway, I was up at 2am to prep for some Night Shots of the starts & beach and, as I opened the door to the outside, was assaulted by the humidity and hugged by the warm air. Of course, by gear was unhappy, as it immediately started to fog up with condensation...had to wait almost 30 minutes for things to settle out! By 7am when the sun was rising, I was easily able to capture this image.

Lighting

The natural light of the sunrise is so gentle and the air is so clear you can't do any better...

Equipment

This was taken with my trusty old Nikon D5200 and a 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 on a tripod. Focal length was 22mm @ f/13, 1/200", ISO 100

Inspiration

Don't get an opportunity to shoot beach sunrises on the West Coast :)

Editing

No processing - straight out of the camera for this one.

In my camera bag

I carry my D5200 and the two kit lenses that came with it. I recently purchased a D780 and 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, so the bag just got a lot heavier!

Feedback

Have patience with Mother Nature and believe in yourself...every time I take a photo, I consider it practice. Lots of practice...
