Location
This photo was taken at Barkhera Pond, near Jaipur, Rajasthan. I usually go there for bird photography.Time
This is was amazing winter day. When I reached to the pond there lots of birds including Lesser Whistling Ducks, Indian Cormorant, Spoonbills and many more where. But due to low light and fog I could not take any good photographs. Then I started walking in the nearby farms. Due to low light, I was not taking pictures, but just enjoying the weather and wind. I was having my Nikon D850 with Nikon 200-500mm Lens with me. Suddenly I saw bright light coming through the clouds and few smaller birds including Indian Silverbill, Long Tailed Shrike and Plain Prinia were flying around. I found a proper location and composed for this shot. As these birds were coming frequently on these twigs frequently, I could get my desired shot. This was taken on Nov 02, 2019.Lighting
I liked the jumping of these birds on these plants and want to get the single twig crossing diagonally while they sit on it.Equipment
This shot was taken by Nikon D850 with Nikon 200-500mm at 500mm, 1/1600s at f5.6 and 1000ISO. I normally take hand held only.Inspiration
The low light situation made me walk in the fields near the pond. I was watching these tiny birds playing around and feeling blessed by mother nature. Suddenly when the sunlight got dropped on these twigs, I felt blessed. It was perfect light and they where in quite a few numbers. I was just supposed to compose a proper shot with nice sunlight on twig and the bird.Editing
I always take my pictures in raw and process using Lightroom and Photoshop. I processed just adjusted the basic settings in Lightroom and then in photoshop added some nice glow to the photo. In my camera bag
Nikon D850 is my favorite camera. And for wildlife I use Nikon 200-500mm lens. I do keep 24-120mm so that sometimes I can go for landscape if there is proper conditions. I do keep 50mm and 70-200mm lens but use them mostly when I am doing portraits. I have tripod but use it only for landscape.Feedback
Taking photo of these small birds is very challenging. So normally I would have my wildlife dress with hat whenever I go for wildlife. As birds may get scared by shiny cloths or hair. Then I will look for a location where these birds are coming frequently. I will compose the shot and focus on right position. Then just wait for them to come. It will be good if you keep burst mode of your camera on. I prefer aperture mode with auto ISO set for lowest limit of shutter speed and maximum of ISO. For these birds, I keep 1/1600s and I will limit my ISO to 3200-4000.
