I was visiting my son in Italy. We decided to take a whirlwind trip through the Dolomites prior to heading to Monte Bianco (Mount Blanc). We had just circumnavigated the Tre Cime and were driving to Corvara where we would climb a Via Ferrata.Time
It was mid afternoon when we stopped in a restaurant parking lot for a break. I walked around looking at all the views of the Cinque Torri (there were many) and the European Larch turning to the colors of autumn.Lighting
The light was a crisp fall mountain afternoon . Being from Colorado, it is something I wait for every year.Equipment
Since this was a road trip and a long way from home, I only had my 24-70mm lens on my Canon 5D Mark II. I tend to travel light on trips like this (I only use Carry on luggage).Inspiration
Plain and simple, it was the Dolomites. Every turn we took was magical. There was a lot of pulling over while driving to capture another photograph.Editing
I try to minimize post processing when possible. For this photo I started in Lightroom and then exported to several possible programs and finally back to Lightroom for the final adjustments. In my camera bag
Normally I have my 5DMII, 50mm prime, 100mm Macro, 24-70mm Zoom and 100-400mm Zoom but not for this trip.Feedback
The main think I shoot with is an open mind and intuition. I rarely plan anything other than were I am going. I tend to trust serendipity. It is an imperfect process but it works for me and might work for others.
