Behind The Lens

Location

I was playing around with perspectives on an old park. I saw these rings, and loved the colour contrast between them. I had my friend stand up on a stool to get the shot with the bright blue sky background.

Time

It was around 3pm. It looks like a really warm day, but it was cold with an edge, and the wind was blowing like crazy.

Lighting

I loved the way the lighting interacted with this photo. It hit perfectly on my model's face, and drew the focus through the ring right to her.

Equipment

Canon 400d, 50mm lens

Inspiration

I love the editorial look of shooting on old playgrounds and have seen this one in my city for years. I've always wanted to shoot with it because of its fun colours and perspectives. I could have spent hours there, just trying out different shots and playing with all the equipment.

Editing

For this picture, I wanted to bring out the colours a bit stronger and clearer, but other than that wanted to leave the picture as it was.

In my camera bag

I usually have an odd collection of shooting tools other than lenses and clothes. I carry pieces of a mirror, leaves, cds , anything that might potentially make a shot better or help in a creative situation.

Feedback

Shooting weird pictures on a public playground will always draw some weird stares, but have fun and focus on your pictures. They won't all be perfect, but give yourself time to get into the rhythm of it and find new angles.
