Lake Matheson has long lured the crowds hopeful of witnessing a mirror reflection of the Southern Alps in it's dark, still water. The lake needs to be totally still in order to reflect a flawless mirror image. Even a slight breeze will distort it. This state of total calm occurs more often at dawn and dusk. (we were there around noon).
