I voted in the contest for your photo, I think you were one of the very few(if there are any) who followed the rules and were loyal to the subject. I hope you win!

Frankly, i was surprised that hardly anyone followed the rules. This is the first time that I entered a Viewbug contest for product campaigned so i just figured out that everyone would follow the rules. Well, may the chips fall where they may!!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Deer Lake in Burnaby, BC Canada. I have been honing my photography and editing skills as an amateur photographer. I decided to enter a photography competition by Michelob Ultra and gave it a try. I followed the perimeters of the competition and recruited my husband. I put my camera on a tripod and took this photo with a remote hidden in my hand. I’m glad that the photo was well received and I hope to do more photography in the future.

Time

The photo was taken in the afternoon. It wasn’t my ideal time of the day since I normally shoot during sunrise or during sunset (golden hour). I normally like to shoot with natural light but my compressed schedule only allowed me time to do the shoot in the afternoon.

Lighting

I had to work with the afternoon sun so I was fortunate that the day was cloudy. I used the cloudy conditions to my advantage even though I typically don’t like to take outdoor photos during the afternoon. I only use artificial lighting during photo shoots in a studio or indoors. However for outdoor photo shoots, I only use natural light.

Equipment

This was shot on Sony A7iii with an Focal lenght of 85mm, fstop f/5.6., ISO-1000, Eposure 1/640.

Inspiration

Using the guidelines of the contest, I went to the nearest forested area with a lake close to my house. I wanted a natural setting as opposed to a studio setting. The earthy colours of the natural setting was exactly what I wanted for this photo.

Editing

Yes, I am self taught in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Michelob asked that they didn’t want an overly edited and processed photo. I used my skills to lightly enhance the photo. I think the operative word would be “tweaking” the photo as opposed to being heavy handed with it.

In my camera bag

Sony A7iii, Canon 77D are my two camera bodies. I won’t list all my lenses but my favorite lens is my 50mm lens. I also usually bring my tripod everywhere. I normally do not carry a flash since I prefer using natural light.

Feedback

I think that lighting is extremely important. That is why I normally shoot during golden hour and blue hour. I don’t like taking my flash with me and I am more of a landscape photographer. So, natural light is paramount to me when taking photos.
