Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Mossel Bay, South Africa, while doing research on the Great white shark population in the Mossel Bay area.

Time

This photo was taken on an early morning trip out to sea, leaving the Port at around 5am, and we started seeing the first sharks around our vessel just after 6am.

Lighting

The early morning sunlight gave this photo the perfect reflections off the water and made the sea glisten.

Equipment

I used a Canon 600D with a Canon 100-300mm lens

Inspiration

Our early morning research expeditions provided the perfect lighting and opportunity to photograph these beautiful creatures in their natural habit around their hunting ground at seal island.

Editing

I did a bit of light editing and sharpening in Lightroom to brighten the sunlight.

In my camera bag

Now days I carry my Canon 90D and 100-400mm, perfect for any wildlife photography, and an extra 50-75mm for the odd landscape photo.

Feedback

The best advice I can offer for wildlife photography is to learn the behavior of your subjects. This makes anticipating their moves a little easier to be prepared for the perfect shot.
