Location
This photo was taken from the Three Rondawels View Point overlooking the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The Blyde River Canyon is the largest green canyon in the world and third only in size to the Grand Canyon and Fish River Canyon.Time
This photo was taken around 10am, with the morning haze still hanging in the air. The hazy conditions arise from the high pressure cell circulating the warm ocean breeze coming from Mozambique over the Mpumalanga lowveld valleys. This haze occurs on almost a daily basis and makes for the most beautiful mornings over the Blyde River Canyon.Lighting
I got lucky with the lighting being perfect in the morning to highlight the glassy water below and to enhance the haze over the canyon.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 600D with a 55mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was guiding a tour for an international tourist group, and the oohs and aahs that came from my guests reminded me of the sheer beauty of the landscape in front of me. I have taken many photos of the Canyon before but this one just stood out for me as I remember the looks on my guest's faces at seeing the Canyon for the first time.Editing
I did some minor post processing on the exposure but not much else.In my camera bag
My Canon 90D is always on hand with either 55mm landscape lens, and now a 100-400mm for wildlife and birding photography.Feedback
Play with the lighting at different times of day, it's amazing how the sun's angle can change a picture.
