Location
My sister’n law Marta drove past this unique path one day after work when she took a different route home in Georgetown, Texas. She knew immediately that she wanted a family photo taken at THIS special location and contacted me with her request!Time
With her request granted, we decided to head out to the location after eating a wonderful Thanksgiving brunch with family around 3pm that day.Lighting
I chose the timeframe that afternoon so I would be able to use all natural lighting... overcast lighting that is!Equipment
This was shot using a Nikon COOLPIX L830 f/3.7 1/100 8.6mm ISO 125Inspiration
I had always photographed people in event situations but never truly focused on actual family photo sessions. Marta had always complimented my photos and had confidence that I could pull off her family photo session as she envisioned. At that time, I began using ViewBug on a regular basis and wanted to expand my portfolio as much as possible. Once I saw the location I knew this would be the one! So I took some test shots without the family in them and this came out to be the best one. I was also able to capture a wonderful family photo as well.Editing
Being that it was a slow start into winter that November in Texas, there were still leaves on the trees they hadn’t fallen as well as a little color in the grass. However, I chose to enhance the photos color and effects a bit to help it stand out.In my camera bag
I have yet to own a more extensive professional grade camera so my camera bag is light in weight! Carrying only extra batteries, a few individually wrapped lens cleaner wipes and maybe an extra memory card. In reality I’m what I consider a version of Linus (Peanuts) in reference to his security blanket. I simply throw the strap my camera is attached to over my shoulder anytime I go somewhere. I never leave home without it!Feedback
I believe a photo like this could be shot in any season of the year. This was was taken shortly before winter and on an overcast mid-afternoon kind of day. Visit your site during different times of the day to capture the look you desire. I believe sun rays beaming through the trees or brightly lit at the end of the road would be a fantastic capture as well. This one however was shot without the sun shine (and on a full stomach) that thanksgiving day and was the perfect view to end the day with.
