The main entrance to the 2019 Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Full of beer halls and all the rides of a major fun fair, it attracts between 1 and 2 million visitors over its 2-week duration. Many people come from overseas to enjoy the event.
One of the traditions is to wear the local dress - guys with lederhosen and check shirts (most often blue and white checks, the colours of the Bavarian flag) and girls with the beautiful Dirndl dresses. You almost tend to feel a bit out of order to turn up in regular clothes! Even many overseas visitors make the effort to dress up "properly"!
