Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken is the Ballet studio in Belgrade - Serbia Backstage3 in a valentine day !!

Time

This was my first picture ever of a ballerina Jovana Mirosavljevic let me use her studio after the closing time, we had a makeup artist with us and a friend of mine keeping the light flash , the studio is really small and before going to the studio I stop and I saw the flowers in a little corner of Belgrade by a really sweet old traditional woman .. it was cold and dark and I had to buy the flowers..... I was so moved by her that i think I gave 4 time the price she ask for .. I used them in the picture ..

Lighting

it was dark , and i only had the Canon 600 on camera flash! but the studio had white wall and white ceiling , quite low so the light was reflecting

Equipment

Canon IDX EF 24/70 F2/8 open at f2,8 , 30mm iso 1251/200 flash canon 600

Inspiration

Giselle , a ballet that i saw the night before at the opera house in Belgrade Jovane really help me to recreate what I wanted , she is a professional dancer and she has her backstage studio were she teach movements and she recreate my vision.

Editing

yes I used some photoshop to level the backdrop and to light up the image as it was really dark

In my camera bag

I was not there with a professional photo gear , so i only had the camera two lenses EF 24/70 f 2,8 and EF 50 f1.2 and the in camera flash and a spare battery !

Feedback

taking picture of ballerina is it really fun, many of them are really gracious and the trick is to catch their movements correctly . i normally ask them to count before making a jump or some difficult position .. and thereafter i show to them the picture to select the best pose sometime the best pose is not what we like as photographer .. and sometime we reach a compromise ..
