The wite boulder casts a long shadow across the bare quartzite that form this ridge in the middle of the prairie. This geographical feature has drawn the interest of people for millennia, who have left their mark in the form of carvings in the hard surface. Some of these petroglyphs are seven thousand years old. The site is considered sacred by the Native Americans. I visited for a special evening event, allowing me to capture them in the last rays of sunlight. This creates much more contrast and makes them easier to spot.
