Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken Hosier Lane, Melbourne. My son and I went to Melbourne for a photo day and he took me to this street. The lane is famous for it’s graffiti and it was taken in a little side alley off the Main Street.

Time

We travelled there early, probably 10 am expecting to avoid the crowds but it was a very popular place

Lighting

The lighting was purely what the summer sun provided. No extra lighting was used.

Equipment

Normally I use a Canon 7D with the standard lens. On this occasion, I used my iPhone 7.

Inspiration

The graffiti was the initial interest but when I saw the people talking and relaxing, I thought it would make a great black and white image.

Editing

Only colour to black and white on photoshop.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D and standard lens. Tripod.

Feedback

Take the time to look around you. There are often images waiting to be captured that you may miss if you are rushing or focusing on a single point. Also take lots of photos. I was told many years ago when I was learning that generally you can expect 10% of the photos you take to be good or great photos.
