Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my first Otakuthon in Montreal. It was right in front of the La joute (de Jean-Paul Riopelle), a beautiful fountain that alternates between a mystifying fog show and a breath taking ring of fire.

Time

This photo was taken at about 6pm near the end of August.

Lighting

I wanted to keep the setting dark while keeping some of the lighting visible in the background just for setting. I used an AD200 with a 47" soft box to illuminate the subject and catch the fog.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Nikon D750. The lens was the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8. I had a AD200 with a 47" softbox.

Inspiration

The cosplay was extravagant and detailed. The fog that came out periodically was the perfect setting for Coven Lissandra.

Editing

Post processing was very minimal. Some minor adjustments to make red and gold pop more and a bit of vignette to further draw attention to the subject.

In my camera bag

My camera bag consists of my Nikon D750, Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8, cross body camera strap, and the nifty 50mm f/1.8.

Feedback

Make sure you adjust for the ambient lighting to get the desired background darkness before adjusting the lighting from your flash.
